In Detail

The GFC series of 1000Mbps Gigabit Ethernet converters enables the user to benefit from the increased bandwidth of Gigabit Ethernet while overcoming the distance limitations associated with 1000Mbps data speeds. As Fast Ethernet backbones become saturated, Gigabit Ethernet becomes more attractive.

The GFT / GFC series Gigabit converters form part of this solution as they allow pre-existing copper and fibre segments to function as gigabit backbones. The investment in your legacy network is preserved and a costly infrastructure upgrade is negated. The range provides clean, reliable conversion between conventional CAT5 / 5e and multimode and singlemode fibre.

Transmission distances

The transmission distances depend on the infrastructure installed. For CAT5 / 5e the 1000BaseT specification limits the cable length to 100meters.
For 1000BaseSX interfaces the transmission distance depends on the type of multimode fibre installed. 62.5/125um multimode fibre yields a range of 220m where as using 50/125um multimode fibre enables 550m transmission.
For long range 1000BaseLX interfaces the typical distance is up to 10Km however, extended range versions are available with optics fitted for distances in excess of 30Km.
