In Detail

As networks become more IP centric there is a growing need to integrate traditional TDM based interfaces into the network. The IP-M bridges this gap by allowing 2Mbps G.703 interfaces to be connected over an Ethernet / IP network.

The IP-M takes the bit stream data from a G.703 interface and packetises this for transport over the IP network. A second IP-M at the remote location then converts these packets back to G.703 data.

In addition to the G.703 interface the IP-M has a local 10/100Mbps Ethernet interface for connection to the local LAN. This interface incorporates a powerful bridge with rate limiting capabilities for bandwidth optimization.

The IP-M ensures G.703 quality of service in a variety of ways. IEEE802.1p & q tagged vLAN's and priority labeling allows TDM packets to be assigned to a dedicated vLAN. The IP Type of Service (ToS) bits can be configured to give TDM over IP packets a higher priority and rate limiting can be used to contol the maximum data rate the IP-M transmits onto the network. The IP-M also utilises an advanced packet buffer engine that ensures low packet loss even across high latency networks.

Management of the IP-M is via the local VT-100 interface or in-band via Telnet or SNMP. The IP-M displays useful statistics and statuses that allow managers to quick identify and rectify any problems that should occur. A variety of front panel LED's also show the status and synchronisation of each interface.
